Jewel

Jewel Davis is an Education Librarian and Associate Professor in a PreK-12 Curriculum Materials Center at Appalachian State University. Her research is focused on examining authentic representation in youth media and developing anti-bias strategies for teachers and K-12 students to critically analyze and interpret the media they consume.

As a member of the Creativity Collaborative, Jewel is interested in using art to explore self-reflection, care, and healing. Because of her interest in arts-based methods, her research on authenticity in media has expanded to include counter-storytelling in art to challenge traditional standards of canon and aesthetic. Her favorite medium is watercolor, and through working with the collaborative, she has rediscovered a love for various mixed media including acrylic, oil pastel, collage, and textiles.
